In short

What to pack, beach rules, cliff safety and livestock tips for camping with your dog.

Cornwall is wonderful for dogs, with miles of coast path, wooded valleys and beaches. At Lower Pennycrocker Farm we welcome up to two dogs per booking at £2 each per night. Here are our tips for a happy, safe camping trip with your dog.

What to pack for your dog

  • Lead, plus a long line for recall practice
  • A tie-out stake or cable for the pitch
  • Their bed or blanket, and an extra blanket for cool nights
  • Food and water bowls, plus a travel water bottle for walks
  • Poo bags, and more than you think you'll need
  • Towels for muddy or sandy paws
  • A tag with your mobile number and a microchip with up-to-date details
  • Any medication, and flea and tick treatment

On the campsite

  • Keep dogs on a lead around the site and never leave them unattended.
  • Clean up after your dog straight away.
  • Be considerate of other campers: barking early or late carries a long way in the countryside.
  • We're a working farm, so keep dogs well away from animals.

Cliffs and the coast path

The coast path is about half a mile from the farm. It's stunning, but the cliffs are high and unfenced in places. Dogs, especially young ones, can chase birds or rabbits over the edge. Keep your dog on a lead near cliff edges.

Take water, as there are few taps on the path, and watch for signs of overheating on warm days.

Livestock

Many coastal fields have sheep, cattle or ponies. Keep dogs on a lead around livestock. If cattle become aggressive, it's safer to let your dog off the lead and get yourself to safety.

Beaches

Some Cornish beaches have seasonal dog restrictions, typically in the main summer months, while others welcome dogs all year. Rules change, so check local signs and the council website before you go. Quiet coves and early mornings or evenings are usually best. See our beach guide.

Dog-friendly days out

  • The Valency valley walk from Boscastle: shady and sheltered. See walks near Boscastle.
  • Bodmin Moor: wide open spaces, though there are grazing animals.
  • Many pubs welcome well-behaved dogs; ask before you go in. See places to eat.
  • Tintagel: check English Heritage's current dog policy for the castle. See Tintagel.

Hot weather

Never leave a dog in a car or tent on a warm day. Temperatures rise quickly. Provide shade and plenty of water.

Ticks

Check your dog, and yourself, for ticks after walks through long grass and bracken.

Booking with your dog

Add your dogs when you book. Remember, there's a maximum of two dogs per booking. Read more on our dog-friendly camping page.

For reference, our 2026 prices per night are: adults £10, children aged 5 and over £5, electric hook-up £7 and dogs £2 each (maximum two). About Lower Pennycrocker Farm

Lower Pennycrocker Farm Camping and Caravan Site is a family-run farm campsite at St Juliot, Boscastle, Cornwall PL35 0BY. It has been in our family for more than 80 years, and Colin and Karyn look after the site and its guests. We welcome tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans on open grass fields with wide views of the Cornish countryside and coast.

There's no clubhouse, pool or evening entertainment. Instead you get space, quiet, free hot showers, parking beside your pitch and easy access to some of the best scenery in Cornwall. Boscastle is about two miles away, Tintagel about seven, and the South West Coast Path about half a mile. Crackington Haven, Bude, Port Isaac and Padstow all make easy day trips.
