Camping in Boscastle: the essentials
If you are searching for camping in Boscastle, you probably want three things: to be close to the harbour and the coast path, to have room to relax at the end of the day, and to know exactly what you will pay. Lower Pennycrocker Farm offers all three. We are a family-run campsite near Boscastle, about two miles from the harbour at St Juliot, and our family has farmed here for more than 80 years. Colin and Karyn run the site themselves, so when you call, you speak to them.
We keep things simple. You get a grass pitch with space around it, parking beside your pitch, optional electric hook-up, free hot showers, toilets, a disabled toilet and a washing-up room. There is no clubhouse, bar or pool — just quiet fields, wide views and the north Cornwall coast a few minutes away.
Why stay at a Boscastle campsite rather than in the village
Boscastle itself is small, steep and busy in summer, and parking near the harbour fills quickly. Staying on a Boscastle campsite a couple of miles out gives you the best of both: a calm base where you can spread out, and an easy trip into the village for the harbour, cafés and walks. Many guests drive down in the morning, park once, and spend the day on foot. Others walk the lanes and footpaths; the coast path is about half a mile from the farm.

Things to do in and around Boscastle
The harbour and village
Boscastle's harbour sits in a narrow, twisting inlet between high cliffs, and it is one of the most photographed spots on the north Cornwall coast. Wander along the harbour walls, browse the small shops and galleries and stop for a cream tea. Much of the harbour and surrounding land is cared for by the National Trust (please check current opening and parking details before you visit).
Walks from Boscastle
The coast path runs right through Boscastle. Head south-west over Willapark headland, with its white lookout, towards Rocky Valley and Tintagel, or north-east past the Pentargon waterfall to Beeny Cliff. For a sheltered option, follow the River Valency inland through woods towards St Juliot church, where the young Thomas Hardy worked on the church restoration and met his first wife, Emma. Our walks near Boscastle page has more.
Beaches near Boscastle
Boscastle's harbour is not a sandy beach, but some lovely beaches are a short drive away. Crackington Haven is about five miles north, with rock pools at low tide. Bossiney and The Strangles are smaller, wilder coves, and the beaches around Bude are bigger and some are lifeguarded in summer. Read beaches near Boscastle.
Further afield
From our campsite, Tintagel is about seven miles, Bodmin Moor and Rough Tor about six, and Port Isaac and Bude about 15. See things to do and the Tintagel guide. For history, our post on Boscastle history for campers covers the harbour, the village and the 2004 flood.
Eating out near the campsite
Boscastle has pubs, cafés and takeaways within a short drive, and Tintagel and Camelford add more choice. Opening hours change through the season, so check before you go. Our places to eat near Boscastle page lists ideas, and easy camping meals helps on nights you would rather cook on the pitch.

A typical day camping near Boscastle
Many guests settle into an easy rhythm. Breakfast outside the tent or van with the sea on the horizon, then a short drive or a walk down the lane to the coast path. By late morning you can be in the harbour village with a pasty in hand, watching the tide work its way up the narrow inlet. Afternoons might mean a beach at Crackington Haven, a castle at Tintagel or simply a nap in the field. Evenings are for cooking on the pitch and watching the sun drop behind the headlands, which is why so many of our photos are sunsets.
