Easter and school holiday camping in Cornwall

in our own words

A girl holding a rock pooling bucket on a sunny Cornish beach

The Easter school holidays are a great time for a family camping trip in Cornwall. The days are getting longer, the beaches are quiet compared to summer, and there's plenty to explore. Lower Pennycrocker Farm is a quiet, family-run campsite at St Juliot, about two miles from Boscastle in North Cornwall.

When are we open?

We open on 1 April each year and close on 31 October. Easter moves each year, and in some years Easter weekend or part of the school holidays falls before we open. Please check the dates before you plan your trip.

Why camp at Easter?

  • Quieter than summer: more space on the beaches and paths.
  • Spring wildlife: wildflowers and nesting seabirds.
  • Family time: a chance to switch off screens and explore together.
  • Good value: a simple camping break can be an affordable holiday.

What our site is like

We're a simple, traditional farm site. We have no shop, bar, play area or entertainment, so families make their own fun in the open fields, on the beaches and on the walks nearby. Our facilities include:

  • Free showers.
  • Toilets and a disabled toilet.
  • A washing-up room.
  • Grass pitches with optional electric hook-up.

See our facilities and family camping pages.

Things to do with kids at Easter

Beaches and rock pools

Rock pooling is brilliant fun in spring. Try Crackington Haven, about five miles away, or Trebarwith Strand near Tintagel. Always check tide times first. See our beach safety and tides guide and our Trebarwith Strand guide.

Boscastle

Explore the harbour, watch the boats and visit the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. See our Boscastle with kids guide.

Tintagel

About seven miles away, with the castle and legends of King Arthur. Check opening times and book ahead in the holidays.

Bodmin Moor

Climb Rough Tor, about six miles away, for huge views. See our Bodmin Moor guide.

Cycling

The Camel Trail is a family-friendly, mostly flat cycle path. See our Camel Trail cycling guide.

Rainy days

See our rainy day guide for ideas when the weather turns.

Easter egg hunts and events

Many places in Cornwall run Easter activities. Check local listings and our Cornwall events by month guide before you travel.

What to pack for an Easter camping trip

  • Warm sleeping bags, as nights can be cold.
  • Extra blankets and layers for the children.
  • Waterproofs and wellies.
  • A torch for each child.
  • Buckets and nets for rock pooling.
  • Games and books for evenings in the tent.

See our camping with a baby guide if you have little ones.

Tips for camping with children

  • Pitch up early so there's daylight to settle in.
  • Give each child a job, like collecting water or finding the tent pegs.
  • Plan one big day out, then a quieter day near the campsite.
  • Keep a dry set of clothes for everyone in a waterproof bag.

A sample Easter family day

  1. Morning: walk to Boscastle harbour, spot boats and explore the village.
  2. Lunch: a picnic or a pasty by the harbour.
  3. Afternoon: head to Crackington Haven for rock pooling at low tide.
  4. Evening: cook dinner at the tent, play games and look for stars before bed.

Keeping everyone warm and dry

April nights can be chilly, so a little planning helps. Put a blanket under each sleeping bag as well as on top. Dress children in a warm hat for bed. Hang wet clothes in a porch or awning, and keep a dry set in a waterproof bag. Hot drinks before bed and a hot water bottle go a long way. Electric hook-up is available if you'd like to run a small heater, and our free showers are a treat after a day on the beach.

Book early

Easter is one of the busier times of the spring, especially weekends. Book early to get the dates you want. For current prices, see pitches and prices. Under-5s aren't charged on our price list, but please mention them when you book.
