A practical base for Tintagel — about seven miles from the farm.
in our own words
Tintagel is about seven miles from our farm campsite at Lower Pennycrocker, near Boscastle. Stay with Colin and Karyn and take Tintagel as a day out — castle, cliffs and village — then come back to a quiet pitch.

Tintagel for families
Children love the castle's legends of King Arthur and the dramatic bridges and cliffs. The site involves many steps, so pushchairs aren't practical; a carrier is better for little ones. Allow time for snacks and breaks. For more ideas see family camping in Cornwall.
Tintagel with dogs
Check English Heritage's current rules on dogs at the castle before you go. The village is generally dog-friendly, but ask before entering cafés and shops.
Best time to visit
Early mornings and late afternoons are quieter, especially in July and August. In spring and autumn, crowds are smaller and the light is beautiful. Strong winds can close exposed parts of the site, so check before setting off.
Tintagel and Boscastle in one day
Many guests visit the castle in the morning, then head back towards Boscastle, about 2 miles from the farm, for an afternoon in the harbour. It's an easy, rewarding loop with plenty of places to stop for lunch.
Tintagel and Port Isaac
If you'd rather keep going, Port Isaac is further along the coast and makes a good afternoon stop on the same trip.
Food in Tintagel
Cafés and pubs in the village serve pasties, cream teas and hot meals; booking ahead is wise for evening meals in summer.
Camping near Tintagel
If you're looking for camping near Tintagel, Lower Pennycrocker Farm is about 7 miles away by road, on farmland above Boscastle. It's a quiet alternative to staying in the village itself, with big fields, sea views and a short walk to the South West Coast Path.
Visiting Tintagel Castle
The castle ruins sit on a dramatic headland and are linked with the legend of King Arthur. The site is managed by English Heritage; check opening times and whether advance booking is needed before you travel. There are lots of steps and steep paths, so wear good footwear and allow a few hours.
Tintagel village
The village has cafés, pubs and gift shops, and it gets busy in summer. Arrive early to find parking, or visit later in the afternoon when day-trippers start to leave.
Walking from the coast path
Experienced walkers can follow the South West Coast Path between Boscastle and Tintagel. The route is spectacular but hilly, with steep climbs and descents and unfenced drops. Plan transport back, check the weather and carry water and food. Our walks near Boscastle guide and the blog post on the best walks from Boscastle have more detail.
