Cornwall in June: Long Days and Quiet Beachesnotes from the farm

In short

Why June is a great month for Cornwall: long evenings, quieter beaches before the school holidays, events and camping ideas near Boscastle.

June may be Cornwall's best-kept secret. The days are the longest of the year, the weather is often settled and the schools are still in session, so beaches and coast paths are far quieter than they will be in August. If you can travel in term time, June is a wonderful month to camp.

Long, light evenings

Around midsummer it stays light until well after 9pm on the north coast. That means time for an evening walk on the coast path after dinner, or a late sunset over the sea. See sunsets and stargazing in north Cornwall.

Weather and the sea

June often brings some of the most settled weather of the season, though the north coast is never entirely free of wind or showers. The sea is still cool, so surfers and swimmers usually wear a wetsuit. Our north Cornwall weather for campers guide explains what to watch for in the forecast.

Who June suits

Events in June

The Royal Cornwall Show takes place at the showground near Wadebridge in June and draws large crowds, so expect busy roads around it. Check dates on the show's own website. For more, see north Cornwall shows and events.

Ideas for a June camping trip

  • Walk the coast path to Pentargon waterfall at golden hour.
  • Spend a long afternoon at Widemouth Bay or Crackington Haven.
  • Cycle the Camel Trail; see our Camel Trail cycling guide.
  • Visit Port Isaac before the summer rush; see the Port Isaac day trip.

What to pack

Even in June, nights by the sea can be cool. Bring warm layers, a waterproof, sun cream and a hat, and a head torch for late evenings. See our north Cornwall camping packing list.

Camping at Lower Pennycrocker Farm in June

Our quiet farm campsite is about two miles from Boscastle and half a mile from the coast path. Adults are £10 a night, children aged 5 and over £5, electric hook-up £7 and dogs £2 each (maximum two). For other months, see the best time to visit Cornwall.

Tips for a June trip

Midweek in early June is one of the quietest times of the season. Arrive in daylight, pitch with your door away from the prevailing wind and plan beach days around low tide.

Getting around in June

Roads are generally quieter than in summer, but allow extra time on show days and Saturdays. Parking at popular villages such as Boscastle and Port Isaac is easier early in the day; see our Boscastle parking guide. Our farm is about two miles from the village, so you can also walk in on the coast path or the lanes.
