in our own words

Bodmin Moor is Cornwall's great upland: granite tors, open moorland, ponies and some of the darkest skies in southern England. Lower Pennycrocker Farm sits between the moor and the sea at St Juliot, near Boscastle. You can spend the morning on the tors and the evening watching the sun go down over the Atlantic, then sleep on a quiet family farm.
How close is the moor?
The northern edge of Bodmin Moor lies beyond Camelford, on the other side of the A39 from us. The Rough Tor car park, the usual start for Rough Tor and Brown Willy, is about ten miles by road from the farm, roughly half an hour's drive on country roads. Southern parts of the moor, such as Minions and Golitha Falls, are further, so allow most of a day for those.
Dark skies over Bodmin Moor
In 2017 Bodmin Moor was designated an International Dark Sky Landscape by the International Dark-Sky Association (now DarkSky International). It was the first such designation in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now called a National Landscape. Our guide to Bodmin Moor dark sky stargazing explains where to go, when, and what to look for. On clear nights the farm itself also has big open skies, as described in our post on sunsets and stargazing in north Cornwall.
Things to do on the moor
- Rough Tor and Brown Willy: Cornwall's highest ground, with wide views to both coasts on a clear day.
- Golitha Falls and Minions: woodland waterfalls and stone circles on the southern moor. See Golitha Falls and Minions.
- Launceston: a castle town on the moor's eastern edge. See our Launceston day trip.

Moor weather can change quickly. Take a map, waterproofs and warm layers, and keep to paths in mist. Livestock graze freely, so keep dogs under close control.
Why base yourself near Boscastle
Camping close to the coast gives you more choice on a wet or windy day. When cloud sits on the tors, the coast may be clearer, and the other way round. From the farm you are about two miles from Boscastle, about half a mile from the South West Coast Path, about five miles from Crackington Haven and about seven from Tintagel.
The farm is a quiet, family-run site with free showers, toilets, a disabled toilet and a washing-up room. You park beside your pitch, and we welcome tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans.
