Bank Holiday Camping in Cornwall

in our own words

The South West Coast Path near Boscastle on a bank holiday weekend

A long weekend is the perfect excuse for a camping trip, and bank holidays are some of the most popular dates of our season. This page lists the upcoming bank holidays that fall in our season at Lower Pennycrocker Farm near Boscastle, and how to make the most of them.

Bank holiday dates in our season

We are open from 1 April to 31 October. Dates for England and Wales from gov.uk:

Bank holiday 2027 2028

Booking a bank holiday weekend

  • Book early. Bank holiday weekends fill first, especially late May and August.
  • Check minimum stays. Please check the live calendar or ask when you book.
  • Arrive in reception hours. Reception is open 9am–7pm. If traffic delays you, ring 07967 605392.

Beating the bank holiday traffic

The A30 and A39 are at their busiest on the Friday afternoon before a bank holiday and on the Monday. Leave early or travel on Thursday evening if you can. Our route guide from the M5 and getting here page help you plan.

What to do on a bank holiday weekend

Boscastle and Tintagel are busy on bank holidays, so go early or late in the day. Our weekend in Boscastle itinerary works well for a three-night break. Quieter options include the coast path from the farm, the Valency valley and the Bodmin Moor tors. See also when Boscastle is busy.

Early May is also when Padstow holds its May Day celebrations; see our Cornwall events by month guide.

A three-night bank holiday plan

  • Friday: arrive in reception hours, pitch up and walk the half mile to the coast path for the evening.
  • Saturday: Boscastle harbour and the Valency valley early, before day visitors arrive. Afternoon at Crackington Haven.
  • Sunday: Tintagel first thing, or a moor walk on Rough Tor if the coast is crowded.
  • Monday: pack up, leave your pitch tidy and set off early to beat the homeward traffic.

If the weather turns, our rainy days in north Cornwall page has indoor ideas.
